Not only a drought tolerant challenge, but also a major usage problem were the driving forces behind this design.  The rear garden had a treacherous slope and was planted with a variety of water thirsty plants and trees. The leveling of the earth was, in itself, a challenge as it had to meet the existing steps while not compromising the rear boundaries.  A Mediterranean color palette and plant selection compliments the architecture of the residence, while maintaining a turf- like feel with carex pansa drought tolerant grass.
